The Bomb of the Privatization of the Franco-Tunisian Bank primed
The Tunisian businessman Abdelmagid Bouden, refugee in France for more than twenty years, would have seriously undermined once more the proposed privatization of the Franco-Tunisian Bank (BFT), which is one of the oldest banks in the country.
In its edition of November 11th, 2010, The Maghreb Confidential Bulletin (MC) revealed that on November 6th, 2010, the Arab Banking Corporation Investments (ABCI) he heads and which disputes the ownership of the BFT against the government for more than twenty years, published on the Tunisian Newspapers an insert that prevents potential purchasers of shares of the BFT that ABCI considers itself as the owner of the shares of the BFT, and reserves to itself the right to legally pursue potential buyers.
The latter can no longer claim to be purchasers with good faith and they can consequently be pursued for « concealment of theft » in foreign courts.
MC Adds that Tunisian authorities asked the business lawyer Nourredine Ferchiou to approach ABCI… to propose off-court regularization by wiping a refusal.
In the beginning of September 2010, several local media announced with great fanfare a new trial for the privatization of the BFT, after the failure of the previous one, in 2008.
Names of famous candidates, close to the Carthage palace, were announced including: Hedi Jilani (Boss of the bosses), Belhssan Trabelsi (the president’s wife’s brother), Hamadi Bousbia, Lotfi Abdennadher and the group Btp Hakim Hmila.
The procedure was of exceptional speed because of the fear of the authorities of a successful case filed by Mr. Bouden in the International Centre for Resolving International Disputes (CIRDI).
The CRDI indicated that on November 17th, 2010, it had pronounced a stop in terms of which some conservatory measures are taken in this case.
The trouble of the authorities shows in the fake story they relayed by official media to replicate on the inset of ABCI.
A laborious and counterproductive attempt to justify this procedure of more than twenty years, revealing that the compensation, claimed by Bouden is around one billion dollars.
According to the last news, the situation of the BFT looks like a ‘slow but a sure death’, as relayed by the website webmanagercenter.
The 230 employees of the bank complain about the deterioration of their work conditions … they are worried about their future and are in disagreement with their general management.
They have threatened to strike again.
According to the weekly newspaper ‘Ashaab’ (quoted by webmanagercenter), BFT would loose about 50 clients per month.
